NATIONAL EVENTS

Bring a Friend - Friendfest
During the months of January, February and March, it’s an opportunity for Scouting youth and leaders to invite their friends to one or two of their meetings.

B.-P.'s Birthday
February 22 is the birthday of both Scouts Canada's founder, Lord Robert Baden-Powell, and his wife, Olave, the first World Chief Guide. Scouts and Guides celebrate this date each year as a remembrance of our heritage.

Scout-Guide Week

This week is celebrated annually from the Sunday before B.-P.'s birthday to the Sunday after. Both Scouts Canada and Girl Guides of Canada enjoy celebratory events, in the spirit of camaraderie and friendship between our two Movements. Scout-Guide Week 2011 is Feb. 20 - 27

Newfoundland and Labrador Provincial Jamboree
Camp EverGreen, June 24 – 27, 2011
As many of you have already heard, Camp Nor’ Wes sustained serious damage during Hurricane Igor. The Council has received a multitude of offers of assistance from groups to assist in the clean up. These offers are gratifying and much appreciated, but after careful consideration of the scope of the work to be done, the capacity to do the work with paid or volunteer manpower or both and the time available, we have determined that the preferable course is to defer Camp EverGreen Provincial Jamboree until the summer of 2012.

We will be planning a camp activity for Venturers to take place in late June or early July 2011 to ensure that senior Venturers have a provincial camping opportunity in this Scouting year. We will confirm dates for 2012 once we know the dates schools will close in June 2012. The date set will ensure that groups in Areas 4 and 5 have adequate time to travel to Camp Nor’ Wes for this event.
