Doug is originally from Gander, Newfoundland and joined Scouting as a Cub in 1971 with First St. Martin’s, a group he would stay associated with for 26 years. He continued through Scouts and Venturers, earning his Chief Scouts Award along the way.

Section Leadership

At the appropriate age Doug completed his Scout Woodbadge and went back to work in the Troop, first as a Scout Councillor and eventually as Troop Scouter. When the older Scouts in the Troop expressed an interest in Venturers, Doug made the move to Venturers. Over the years he has moved back and forth from Troop to Company as the need arises.

Jamborees

His passion for Scouting and in particular Jamborees started as a youth, when he attended his first Canadian Jamboree, CJ’77 in PEI. Since then he has attended every CJ, numerous Newfoundland Provincial Jamborees and two World Scout Jamborees. The highlight being a Troop Leader for the World Jamboree in Holland in 1995.

Other Scouting Roles

He served first as an Assistant District Commissioner in Gander and finally as District Commissioner. During these years in Gander Doug became involved in training, delivering sessions and overseeing Gilwell Training Events. Through the Newfoundland Council he completed additional leadership training, including Train-The Trainer and was selected to attend the National Training Event in Halifax, 1994. He was awarded his fourth bead in 1995, earning his Trainer III Accreditation designation.

Doug was appointed DCC-Program Services, Nova Scotia Council in February 2010.

In 1997 Doug and his wife made the move to the Halifax area and became involved with groups there. Since 2004 he has been involved with the First Riverlake Group, Fall River; first with Troop and since 2007, Advisor to the First Riverlake Venturer Company.

Doug is employed with The Global Group, Canada’s largest office furniture manufacturer. He is an Account Manager for Atlantic Canada, responsible for dealer and government sales.

After 20 years as an adult volunteer, he finally registered one of his own children as a member of Scouting in 2008!

Doug is married and has 2 children. He lives in Windsor Junction, Nova Scotia, a suburb of Halifax.
