The Bert Sheppard Scout Reserve is interested in staff who:

Benefits of working at camp:
- Training, to gain experience and knowledge of our programs and it’s delivery. All staff are paid during staff training
- Wilderness First Aid certification. This takes place over the weekend before staff training begins in the spring and is held at Camp Gardner

What Can You Expect From Camp?
A place to stay – All staff are provided with full room and board while working at camp. At our Camp Gardner location we have an onsite cook that will provide all staff and participants with meals and snacks. At our Camp Impeesa location staff share a common kitchen and make their own meals, also sharing the responsibility of cooking, organizing and cleaning up after each other.
At all of our camp locations staff will live on site in one of our rustic cabins or longhouses with access to full bathrooms, showers and laundry close by. At our Camp Impeesa location our program staff will spend part of their summer camping in tents.
Salary – All staff are paid for the great job they do throughout the spring and summer at our camps. Salary is based on the job position and the number of seasons at camp.
Staff Training – All staff will take part in mandatory staff training which takes place at our various camp locations and will be on-going during the spring and beginning of summer. We will cover all aspects of camp life, our programs and procedures. Training begins at our Camp Gardner location and ALL staff will be expected to be at camp for the duration of the training. Once our initial camp training is complete staff hired to work at our Camp Impeesa location will travel to camp and begin our spring session and site specific training. Staff will complete summer camp training after our spring session is over in June. All staff will participate in a backpacking training and wilderness camping session at Camp Impeesa.

What does our spring and summer progam look like?
Camp Gardner
Once staff training is completed our spring program begins. At our Camp Gardner location our spring season begins with our Schools and Scouting program. Staff will be responsible for leading school groups through our Outdoor Skills program and Environment and Nature programs. Schools stay with us for 3 days at a time giving staff the opportunity to really get to know the students and have the chance to teach a number of different activities and program areas.
In between our schools program staff help run camp programs for our rental and scouting groups which take place during the week and on the weekends. Time off will be scheduled accordingly and will vary each week.
As soon as our spring session is complete summer camp training will begin. This training will focus specifically on the cub scout summer camp program and schedule and includes some hiking and backpacking skills training. Staff will transition into the summer camp schedule once training has been completed.
Camp Impeesa
Once staff training is completed our Impeesa staff will travel to the camps Beaver Mines location to set up and prepare for rental, school and scouting groups. The spring season sees our staff providing program activity support to all of our groups both during the week and on weekends. Time off will be scheduled accordingly and will vary each week. Staff will receive on site specific training including the climbing tower operation, zipline, canoe instruction and archery.
As soon as our spring session is complete summer camp training will begin. This training will focus specifically on the scout summer camp program and the adventure backpacking program. Impeesa staff will be expected to participate and help with our Timber Trails horseback program as well.
Camp Apistitoke
This season will we be launching a new program at our Cypress Hills camp location and staff from both Impeesa and Gardner will have a chance to help out in running this program.
At all of our camps staff can expect a variety of experiences and adventures with a lot of hard work and effort. We always have fun and camp definitely makes for a rewarding and exciting summer.

The Program Coordinator is the key contact and on site program support person at the Bert Sheppard Scouts Reserve’s Camp Impeesa, located in Beaver Mines Lake, AB. The PC will assist in the management of the overall camp operation at the direction of the Senior Program Coordinator. The PC will supervise, plan, develop and facilitate programs and staff. This includes development, participation, implementation and running of staff training in conjunction with the SPC. This spring and summer's program includes summer camp, a backpacking program and daily programs for other camp users. This position provides full room and board and a paid weekly salary. The Program Assistant plays a key role in delivering the Schools and Scouting program at the Bert Sheppard Scout Reserve’s Camp Gardner, located just outside of Calgary near Bragg Creek, AB. Over the summer, this position will assist the senior programmer in helping with summer camp and delivering programs to all other camp users.
This position requires a candidate who is creative, high energy, self motivated and the ability to supervise fellow camp staff members.

The program leader/camp counselor delivers our educational programs and summer camp programs at the Bert Sheppard Scout Reserves Camp Gardner, Camp Impeesa and Camp Apistitoke. Candidates with a passion for the outdoors and interest in inspiring that passion in young people will be a good fit for this position. They will help deliver the schools and scouting program in the spring session then transition into our residential summer camp program. They will also plan and lead our high adventure backpacking program and participate in our Timber Trails horseback riding camps. This position is the primary caregiver for our campers and requires staff to plan, teach, coordinate and carry out all camp activities and guide campers in their personal growth at camp. This includes all theme days and out trip days. Candidates must be comfortable in participating in and teaching outdoor pursuits activities including camping, hiking, backpacking, canoeing etc. He or she must have the ability to "wear many hats" and be flexible with the ever changing camp community.
The program leader will be required to work at our various camps and program locations in Southern Alberta. Staff must be willing be located at any of our camp locations throughout the work period.

The Lifeguard position will supervise, develop and lead all programs in the outdoor pool at the Bert Sheppard Scouts Reserve's Camp Gardner. This includes all daily scheduled swim periods and other special pool events. Red Cross swimming lessons are offered throughout the summer and lifeguards with swimming instructor experience and certification will be considered and sought after first. Bronze level lifesaving course also are taught by the lifeguard over the summer. This position will also work closely with the camp ranger on the daily maintenance and up keep of the pool and area.

The Waterfront Supervisor position will supervise activities located at our lakeside swim area atBert Sheppard Scout Reserve's Camp Impeesa. This includes swim periods, waterfront events and canoeing activity. We are looking for someone with supervisory experience and a high level of maturity. This position will also work closely with the camp ranger on the daily maintenance and up keep of the waterfront and other various locations around camp. The waterfront supervisor will work with our program coordinator in helping run other camp program areas including zip line, archery range and obstacle course. The waterfront supervisor will look after the daily cleaning and up keep of the camp washhouse.

The camp cook provides nutritious, well-prepared meals served to all campers, guests and staff at the Bert Sheppard Scout Reserve’s Camp Gardner. The cook will be responsible for ordering and keeping inventory of all camp food and supplies. They will also keep the kitchen and dinning hall clean and sanitary at all times.
