Camp Alloway is located on the Big Whiteshell Lake -180 km. east of Winnipeg, in the Whiteshell Provincial Park. From Rennie, travel North on Highway 307 approximately 24 km. Turn East on Highway 309. To reach the Big Whiteshell Lodge, follow this road (309) for approximately 10 km. An alternate route, for boat docking, is from South Shore Road.
Camp Alloway is a wilderness camp, operated by Scouts Canada. The intent of this camp is to provide our members an opportunity to go camping on a wilderness setting. This camp has an excellent beach for swimming, and since it is located in a bay, provides an opportunity for developing watercraft skills in a sheltered area. From this intent, there are a few resources available.
Groups are responsible for their own boat transportation to the site. However, Scouts Canada does have a 16 foot boat, with no motor, available for use upon reservation from the Winnipeg Service Centre. This boat can accommodate 4 adults and their gear. You may bring your own motor for this boat. Regulations state that a motor of size up to 20hp may be used. For Boat Rentals you may contact the Big Whiteshell Lodge at (204) 348-7623, Whiteshell Lake Resort at (204) 348-7627 or you may wish to contact places in Winnipeg.
The site has 5 camping sites and 3 outhouses. As well, there are 2 Cub Cabins (for sleeping purposes only) which can be used. In the boathouse, there are 7 canoes for your use. Please be advised you must bring your own Personal Floatation Devices and Paddles. Coast Guard Safety Kits are available from the Winnipeg Service Centre upon your request for use of the canoes. Your group will be charged for the replacement of these kits if not returned by Tuesday following your trip. The boathouse contains a few PFDs only for emergencies.
Currently, the cabin (known as the Directors Cabin) and the Hospital is unavailable for use by campers for health and safety reasons.
