Philip Mondor Scholarship

This scholarship is awarded to up to four registered youth members of scouting who are entering any year of post-secondary education or training programs. Each scholarship is a one-time financial contribution of $500.00. There are two categories of scholarships: Service to Camp Opemikon and Service to Voyageur Council. Two of the scholarships are awarded in the Service to Voyageur Council category, while the remaining scholarships are awarded in the Service to Camp Opemikon category. The requirements for the two categories, along with application procedures, are given below;

Service to Camp Opemikon

Awarded to a registered youth member of scouting who has shown exceptional service to camp Opemikon as a volunteer or as a summer staff member. The service must have been over a period of three consecutive scouting years, the last of which is the year of application.

Note that the Scouting year starts in September and ends in August, therefore each summer is counted with the scouting year that precedes it.

Applicants must, along with the completion of the application form, write a 350-word essay which answers the question: “How have your experiences at Camp Opemikon affected your life?”

Applicants must also provide three references, at least one of which must be a peer and another must be a leader or advisor.

Service to Voyageur Council

Awarded to a registered youth member of scouting who has shown exceptional service and participation within Voyageur Council’s program. The service and participation must have been over a period of three consecutive scouting years, the last of which is the year of application.

Applicants must, along with the completion of the application form, write a 350-word essay which answers the question: “How have your outdoor experiences within the Voyageur Council program developed your skills?”

Applicants must also provide three references, at least one of which must be a peer and another must be a leader or advisor.

Application packages and information are available on the Council Website, as well as the SSYC website. All application packages are to be submitted to the Council office.  Applications must be received by the office no later than May 1st. Review and decisions are to be conducted by a committee overseen by the Council Youth Commissioner of Voyageur Council and Council Commissioner of Voyageur Council (or their delegates) who will ultimately award the scholarships.  The award consists of a $500 cheque and a framed certificate attesting to the awarding of the scholarship.  The scholarships will be awarded just prior to the June meeting of the Venturer Advisor’s Forum/Joint Council.

The application form for the Philip Mondor Scholarship will be found on the Administration Page of the ENOSSC website under the Recognition Section.

Note: applicants are reminded that Scouts Canada also has a National Scholarship program which recognizes 17 applications from across Canada.  The deadline for this scholarship is March 31st. Details may be found at:  http://www.scouts.ca/ca/how-apply-scholarship-0
