PROGRAM WOOD BADGE I (COLONY, PACK, TROOP, COMPANY or CREW)

For section Scouters, this basic course provides the skills and knowledge base to help new leaders run stimulating meetings and simple outdoor activities for their youth. Topics include understanding section youth, program elements and planning, conducting section activities, communicating and working with the leadership team, and safety in the outdoors. Formats are generally one weekend, 2 days or several evenings. Total training time about 16 hours.

There is required reading in preparation for this course.

Attendance at a formal training course is mandatory for new program leaders and is to be taken in their first scouting year.

Recognition in the form of a leather woggle is presented at the completion of this course.


GROUP COMMISSIONER - WOOD BADGE I (Replaces FTWHO 1 for Commissioners)

For the Group Commissioner and members of the group committee, Area Commissioners and Area Teams. At the completion of the course participants will understand the function of the Group Committee and will know how to use the various tools available to assist the Group Commissioner. Topics will include Structure, Mission and Strategic Directions of Scouts Canada and Voyageur Council, Role and Accountabilities, Risk Management, Group Management and Program Delivery.

Prerequisites: Member of Scouts Canada and have read the risk assessment document. Conducted over a series of evenings or a weekend. About 10 hours of training.
