Program Info

Day Camp

Our day camp is an outdoor focused program, which emphasizes the development of outdoor skills, environmental awareness and wilderness exploration on the camp’s 166 scenic acres.  The day camp has a maximum of 125 campers per period and covers youth ages 5 to 13. Youth are grouped according to age in a camper group supervised by trained counselors. The activities are selected to build outdoor skills, self-confidence, respect for others and the environment, teamwork, and of course because they are fun. Each activity is age-appropriate and takes into consideration skill levels of the youth participating. Each camper will enjoy activities within his or her counselor group as well as visiting our many sites on the property.  These sites include: Our Water Front where campers participate in canoeing and a short canoe trip; the Arts Centre where they create, build, sculpt, paint and enjoy arts and crafts; our Nature Centre where youth have an opportunity to learn about the many species of plants and animals at Camp Samac and participate in fun projects involving nature and the environment;  Camp Samac’s Pool where each afternoon our campers hone their swimming skills, or enjoy playing in the water with friends; and Special Events which take place each Friday afternoon and coincide with our theme.

 Residential Camp

Our residential camp is an outdoor focused program, which emphasizes the development of outdoor skills, environmental awareness and wilderness exploration on the camp’s 166 scenic acres. Residential Camp can accomodate 25 campers per period and is for youth ages 8 to 13.  It runs from 9:00am Monday through to 5pm friday.  We operate the Residential program as an outdoor experience sleeping in tents, cooking some meals over a campfire and learning to live amongst and with nature. The area includes large playing fields, wooded areas with more than 40 tree species and a large campfire pit. Our daily program is very well balanced. These sites include: our Water Front where youth participate in canoeing and a short canoe trip; the Arts Centre where they create, build, sculpt, paint and enjoy arts and crafts; our Nature Centre where youth have an opportunity to learn about the many species of plants and animals at Camp Samac; our NEW Outdoor Skills session where youth will be challenged and have an opportunity to learn new skills; Camp Samac’s Pool, where youth have an opportunity to hone their swimming skills, or just enjoy playing in the water with friends and Special Events which take place throughout the week and coincide with our themes.

CIT & LT Program

The  Leadership Training (LT) program is geared towards youth ages 13 to 15 who are interested in developing strong personal leadership skills and improving self-confidence. The program focuses on personal development and mastering certain outdoor skills.  Activities include hands-on learning of fire lighting, shelter building, canoeing and nature interpretations. Also included in the week are sessions on goal setting, leadership styles, conflict resolution and self-esteem. This program is ideal for young teens interested in taking leadership roles in school, in sports and as future camp counsellors. It runs Monday to Friday (expect shortened weeks which run Tuesday to Friday), from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm with an overnight stay on Thursday.   LT campers are provided dinner on Thursday, as well as breakfast and lunch on Friday. Program can accommodate 20 campers per period.

The 2013 Counsellor-In-Training (CIT) program is geared towards youth ages 15 to 16 wishing to become future camp counsellors or to build on current leadership skills. It is a one week overnight program. Sessions on program planning, resume and interview preparation, are mixed with outdoor skills such as cooking and sleeping outdoors, survival skills, canoeing and shelter building. Campers are provided with an opportunity to shadow counsellors and to obtain insight into the day and residential camps through the counsellor’s perspective. The CIT program builds on the skills obtained in the LT program, with stronger emphasis on personal leadership skills and camp counselor duties.
Survival Camp

Campers will experience a more challenging wilderness program by tenting away from the main camp area. Completion of pioneering, watercraft and team building challenges will provide rewards to teams and individuals. . Our daily program will be balanced between skills instruction, challenges, meal preparation and free time. Focus is on outdoor skills, trust and teambuilding through activities such as hiking, kayaking, canoeing, swimming, shelter building and adventure challenges. We endeavour to challenge our campers with adventure while placing an emphasis on safety.
